Associations/Coalitions

The Alabama Railway Association is a non-profit association comprised of short line and Class I & III railroads operating in the state of Alabama. The Association has an elected Executive Board, however the action of the Association is advisory only and not binding upon any of its members. The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) is a non-profit trade association that represents the interests of its more than 400 short line and regional railroad members in legislative and regulatory matters. Click here to find out more about ASLRRA.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) is a membership organization that oversees a 140,000-mile rail network and sets new standards for rail innovation, safety and technology. AAR not only represents the freight rail industry on Capitol Hill, but it also facilitates its operations, safety, security and research standards. The Coalition Against Bigger Trucks L.L.C. (CABT) opposes efforts at all levels of government to make trucks longer and heavier. In order to protect public safety, the nation's infrastructure and the environment, CABT has embarked on a grass roots campaign to fight the efforts of bigger truck proponents to increase truck lengths and weights. The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (49 U.S.C. 103, Section 3(e)(1)). The purpose of FRA is to: promulgate and enforce rail safety regulations; administer railroad assistance programs; conduct research and development in support of improved railroad safety and national rail transportation policy; provide for the rehabilitation of Northeast Corridor rail passenger service; and consolidate government support of rail transportation activities. Today, the FRA is one of ten agencies within the U.S. Department of Transportation concerned with intermodal transportation. The Georgia Railroad Association (GRA) is a voluntary organization dedicated to delivering rail industry messages to public officials, participating in public debate of public policy issues affecting the industry and providing information to state and public officials. Additionally, the GRA provides a forum for Georgia railroads to share information and to promote knowledge and understanding of the role of railroads in the safe, efficient and economic freight transportation of goods. Go21 was founded in 2004 as a coalition to unite U.S. decision makers and citizens alike in support of a stronger economy, effective solutions to highway congestion, a cleaner environment and improved quality of life by advocating increased use of freight railroad transportation as an alternative to continued reliance on an overcrowded highway system. Operation Lifesaver is a national, non-profit education and awareness program dedicated to ending tragic collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights of way. The Railway Association of North Carolina consists of 23 member railroads (21 short and 2 Class I railroads) operating in the State of North Carolina. The Railway Association of North Carolina is a forum for members to come together and share events and information about the rail industry in their state. The Railway Tie Association is the forum for the interests and needs of all groups that depend on the wood crosstie industry for their business success.
